History

Woosehill Community Church started in 1984, when the congregation met in members homes.  Shortly afterwards they moved into Hawthorns School, and in 1993 the new Church building in Chestnut Avenue was opened.  We are an interdenominational group combining Methodists and Anglicans in what is called a Local Ecumenical Partnership.  Our friendly and informal services are very varied and reflect both styles of worship. Click here for a more detailed history.

The Church and the Local Community

Our links with Hawthorns School have always been very strong.  Pupils and parents crowded into the church for a Nativity Service last December.  Groups of children from the School have been shown around the Church by Ministers as part of their Religious Education.

Groups of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides use the building for their meetings and they, along with our Chestnut Avenue neighbours the Cubs and Scouts, come to Parade Services here on several Sundays throughout the year.

Every day during term time we host the Hawthorns After School club. The church is also used as a Polling station.

 Charities and Concerns

Woosehill Community Church supports many charities by tithing its income, but has particularly strong links (both financ.ial and by prayer support) with Yeldall Manor in Twyford, a centre for the rehabilitation of Men with drug and alcohol dependencies, and with Christian Aid. Woosehill Community Church supports many charities not only through prayer but also by tithing its income, and over 20 currently benefit.  One long term beneficiary is Yeldall Manor in Twyford, which is a centre for the rehabilitation of men with drug and alcohol dependencies.  We contribute significantly to the Wokingham Schools Worker Trust.  Amongst national bodies we support are Christian Aid, Mercy Ships and both Anglican and Methodist Missions.

Our main charity this year is Medical Missionary News, which we are supporting not only by donations but also through a band of knitters who are producing baby garments and woollen blankets which are given to new mothers in Zambia

Members of the Church are active in the organisation of the Women's World Day of Prayer Services.

Our 'Good Neighbours' scheme to provide practical help for those in need is small as yet, but we hope to develop it.

Our team of Pastoral Visitors are available to befriend those of the congregation who live in their area, and offer assistance such as lifts to Church.
